Smart Cooks! AI vs Machine Learning vs Deep Learning
LYNNIE VERSION
Would you like to read this article in more grown-up words, still easy to understand? Jump here.
Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about AI vs machine learning vs deep learning. Lots of grown-ups use these words like they mean the same thing. But they don’t!
Circles inside circles
Picture some circles. Automation is the biggest circle. AI is another circle that overlaps it a bit. Machine learning is a circle inside AI. And deep learning is a circle inside machine learning. Like nesting dolls!
What is AI?
AI means artificial intelligence. It’s one step smarter than normal automation.
Normal automation follows fixed rules. AI can look at information, find patterns, and decide things, without being told exactly what to look for every time.
Example: A spam filter that learns what junk emails look like. Nobody writes a rule for every junk email. It spots the patterns and decides by itself!
What is machine learning?
Machine learning is one way to build AI. Instead of getting rules, it gets LOTS of information and learns from it. And it gets better over time by spotting patterns.
Example: An online shop notices you keep looking at certain things. So next time, it shows you more of them! Nobody set that up by hand. The system learned it from you.
What is deep learning?
Deep learning is one kind of machine learning. It’s behind most of the AI stuff that feels like magic today.
Deep learning can spot a face in a photo, translate talking in real time, or write text that sounds like a person wrote it. It’s the engine behind AI helpers like Claude and ChatGPT.
The kitchen trick
Here’s an easy way to remember.
- Automation is a kitchen timer. It rings after twenty minutes. Every time. Because that’s the rule!
- AI is a cook who tastes the food and decides when it’s ready.
- Machine learning is a cook who gets better with every meal, because they remember what worked.
- Deep learning is a super experienced cook who knows thousands of recipes, and can make a brand-new dish when you ask!
Each one builds on the one before. Yum!
Why it helps to know
You don’t need the techy details. But you won’t get fooled by big “AI-powered!” claims, and you’ll know what to expect from each tool.
Careful with AI helpers!
AI helpers can say wrong things in a super confident voice. So always check facts, numbers, and anything about rules or money before you share it. Think of AI as a good first draft. Then use your own brain!
Cheap and private
Lots of AI tools have free plans that are plenty for beginners. You need very little money to start. Monthly AI fees can wait until you know exactly what they’ll help with.
AI can help you with your marketing too, like writing pin descriptions or blog plans. With your own judgment, that makes bringing visitors easier. No agency needed! And AI makes it easier than ever to stay off camera.
What’s next?
The next article is about generative AI and chat AI, in simple words. The whole chapter is in the book on our products page. Want a grown-up to help you use AI tools? Go to our services page.
What grown-ups usually ask (and I answer)
Is AI part of automation?
No! They overlap, but they’re different fields.
What makes machine learning different?
It learns from information and gets better, instead of just following rules.
What’s a real example of machine learning?
A shop that shows you more of what you like to look at.
Will there be step-by-step lessons for each of the ten ways?
Maybe! If lots of people want them. Join the waitlist and you’ll know first.
What is deep learning?
Machine learning with lots and lots of layers, a bit like a brain.
What’s behind ChatGPT and Claude?
Deep learning!
Do I need to know the difference to use them?
No. It just helps you understand what each tool can and can’t do.
Is there a cheap way to start?
Yes! Lynnaider shows you how to start each of the ten ways for free, or for very, very little money. You’d be surprised! And a free robot helper called Lynnaider Compass helps you step by step!
