Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about freelancing setup for beginners.

The setup checklist has five kinds of setup. Freelancing is one of the most flexible ways: only ONE is always needed! You can sell on a marketplace, your own website, or a social store. Let’s go step by step!

Your offer: the one thing you always need

Your offer explains the special work you’re willing to do, and its price. A digital product always has the same contents. A freelance offer says what you do, how, by when, and for how much!

A client should understand right away what they get and what it costs. The clearer your offer, the easier it is to say yes! Freelance services to offer helps you find yours!

What to put in your offer

  • What you do: in one clear sentence.
  • What’s included: like three logo ideas.
  • Format: the file type, or how you deliver it.
  • Time: how long it takes.
  • Changes: how many rounds are included.
  • Price: a set price per job, or per hour.

Partner agreements: not needed!

Freelancing works without joining any program. You can start on your own website or social store, right away!

On a marketplace, you agree to its rules. But that’s a choice, not a must.

Legal pages: it depends

On a marketplace, the marketplace’s own rules give your work basic legal protection.

On your own website or social store, you need a privacy page and simple rules. Always ask a grown-up legal expert to check them! Legal requirements explains the basics.

Payments: it depends too

On a marketplace, the marketplace handles the money. You just connect your bank account in your dashboard!

On your own website, or with clients you find yourself, helpers like Stripe or PayPal come in. Either way, you never collect money from lots of strangers. Each payment is between you and one client you know!

Shipping: never!

Freelancing never needs shipping. What you deliver is always a digital service: a finished file, a done task, a session, or work sent by email. Nothing real gets sent!

No stock, no boxes!

An example

Imagine someone who edits podcasts. On a freelancing marketplace, she makes one clear offer: editing one episode up to 60 minutes, delivered as an MP3 in three days, with one round of changes, for a set price. She connects her bank account in her dashboard.

No website, no payment helper, no shipping. Her setup costs: zero! When she has steady clients, she plans to add a simple website with her own rules and Stripe payments.

Small and private

Freelancing can be set up for free on most marketplaces! You’d be surprised how little you need. No monthly payments before you have clients. And your offer and work examples can do the talking!

What’s next?
