Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you where to post affiliate links.
There are three profile types: marketplace, website, and social media. For affiliate marketing, you can usually only use TWO: your own website, and social media. Let’s see why!
Your own website
You can put affiliate links on your own website, in blog posts, reviews or lists of favorite things. A website gives you full control, and people can find it on Google. Dennis, the sneaker friend from the affiliate examples, works this way!
But links only earn if people actually visit! Bringing visitors takes time and skills like SEO. But good articles keep bringing visitors for months or years.
Social media
That’s why social media is the most common home for affiliate links! It brings visitors again and again. A link-in-bio page, video descriptions or pin links make your recommendations easy to find.
On social media, people usually don’t search like on Google. Instead, apps SHOW them content. That gives new creators a chance to be seen by people who never heard of them!
Why not marketplaces?
Marketplaces usually don’t allow links to other websites. They want shoppers to stay and buy right there! So for affiliate marketing, only two of the three profile types work.
Why apps showing your content matters
So making content apps like to show is super important for affiliate marketing. Grown-ups call it “going viral.” Going viral on social media explains it! Apps usually like people who post often and regularly.
But being seen is never guaranteed. Posting doesn’t always mean followers, and followers don’t always mean people see your posts. Even your own followers might only see some of them!
Trust beats the app
Whatever app you pick, trust is what really makes it work. Affiliate marketing grows from caring about your topic for a long time. Just like sponsorships, it depends on trust that grows over time.
People come for your content, not for the products. When recommendations show up only sometimes, and fit naturally, they feel helpful, not pushy.
Then it’s not really selling. It’s a kind way to earn from a friendship with your fans!
Picking your app
- Love short videos? Try a short-video app with a link-in-bio page.
- Love pictures and planning? Pinterest is great!
- Love explaining things in detail? YouTube or a blog.
On Pinterest, YouTube and blogs, people SEARCH. So your content can keep earning long after you post it! Short videos reach lots of people fast, but fade faster.
Website AND social media
Lots of affiliates use both! Social media to reach people, and a simple website to keep all their recommendations in one place. The website can also have an email sign-up. That helps you keep your fans, even if an app changes its rules!
Small and private
A social profile and a free link-in-bio page cost nothing! You’d be surprised how little you need. No monthly payments before you have visitors. And lots of affiliates never show their face. Secret Agent style!
