LYNNIE VERSION

Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about SEO for beginners. It’s way number one on Lynnaider’s list!
SEO stands for search engine optimization. Big words again! It just means helping search engines, mostly Google, find your website, understand it, and show it to people who search for things like what you sell.
It sounds techy, but the basics are simple. And it’s free! One good page can bring visitors for months, or even years.
The three big parts
- Keywords. Those are the words people type when they search. Use them naturally in your page titles, headings and text.
- A tidy website. It should load fast and work well on phones.
- Really helpful content. Useful, true and trustworthy.
Most website builders, like Shopify, WordPress and Wix, have simple SEO settings you can fill in yourself. No techy skills needed!
Links from other websites to yours (backlinks) still help search engines trust you, too.
The big change in May 2026
Google announced its biggest change in more than 25 years! It’s called AI Mode, and it’s powered by Gemini. Now AI answers show up at the very top of the search page, before the normal links.
And short AI summaries (grown-ups call them AI Overviews) show up on almost half of all Google searches!
So fewer people click on links. On searches with AI answers, the top normal result gets about half the clicks it used to. Wow!
So is SEO still worth it?
Yes! But what “winning” means is changing. And the rules might change again.
Now the new goal is: be the source the AI quotes! That brings way more clicks than being the top normal link.
There’s a way to bring visitors that’s all about this. It’s called GEO, and it has its own article: generative engine optimization.
What content SEO needs
For SEO, your website IS the content. Every page title, heading, picture label and paragraph tells search engines what your page is about. So keep it tidy: short paragraphs, true facts, and clear headings.
Pictures matter too! With Google Lens and Google Shopping, product pictures can show up right in Google’s results. So use nice pictures with clear file names. Like “handmade-blue-ceramic-mug.jpg” instead of “IMG_1234.jpg.” Those names are super important for SEO!
Beginner’s tip
Start with the basics your platform already has:
- Page titles
- Meta descriptions. That’s the little summary under your page in search results.
- Alt text. A short description of a picture, for search engines and for people who use screen readers.
These are the most forgotten starting points. And they help the fastest! You can fill them in yourself today.
Cheap, but patient
SEO costs nothing but time! But be patient. SEO often takes weeks or months. Once it works, though, it can keep working for a long time.
And SEO is perfect if you don’t want to show your face. Search engines show helpful content, not famous faces!
