Quote Me, Robot! Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

LYNNIE VERSION

Would you like to read this article in more grown-up words, still easy to understand? Jump here.

Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about generative engine optimization. Wow, that’s a mouthful! Grown-ups just say GEO.

Lots of people now ask AI helpers for advice, instead of searching on Google. And the AI often names where it got its answer. GEO means making your content easy for those AI helpers to find and quote!

Way 10: GEO (free!)

GEO and its cousin LEO are brand-new words. Grown-ups haven’t even fully agreed on them yet! The goal: when someone asks ChatGPT or Google’s AI Mode about your niche, YOU become the source it quotes!

Here’s the big difference from SEO. With SEO, there are spots, like number one, number two. With GEO, there are no spots. Either the AI quotes you, or it doesn’t!

Why it matters now

Remember from the SEO article? Google now puts AI answers at the very top of lots of searches. So fewer people click normal links. Being quoted INSIDE the AI answer is becoming one of the best ways to be seen!

What AI helpers like

AI helpers love writing that’s tidy, true, and shows where facts come from. Short paragraphs, clear headings, sources, and direct answers to common questions all help your content get picked!

And mentions of your brand on trusted websites help AI decide who to trust.

What content you need

Good news! Content that’s great for your human visitors is usually great for AI helpers too. True facts, tidy structure and direct answers.

FAQs are super powerful! They’re questions with answers, exactly the way AI helpers like to answer. And blogs that are trusted in their niche have a great chance to become sources for AI answers!

GEO checklist

  • Answer one clear question per section, in the first sentence or two.
  • Use headings that sound like the questions people ask.
  • Keep paragraphs short and true.
  • Show good sources when you share facts or numbers.
  • Add an FAQ section with direct, complete answers.
  • Keep content fresh, with correct dates and current info.
  • Get your brand mentioned on trusted websites, forums and magazines.

For shops too!

GEO isn’t only for blogs. Shops can use it too! Clear product titles, detailed descriptions with real sizes and materials, honest reviews, and a helpful FAQ on each product page. That makes it easier for AI helpers to recommend your products when someone asks for ideas.

GEO and SEO together

GEO and SEO need mostly the same things, so work on both at once!

It’s extra great for content-based ways among the ten ways to earn, like affiliate blogs and digital products.

In short

GEO means making your content easy for AI to find, understand and quote. The best way to prepare? Be the most helpful, clearest source for the questions your customers ask!

And it’s free. It costs time and care when you write. And AI helpers quote content, not faces. You can stay in the background!

What’s next?

The next article is about way number eleven: paying creators and magazines to show your stuff. The whole lesson is in the book on our products page. Want a grown-up to help make your content AI-friendly? Go to our services page.
