Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you where brand deals start. There are three places: your social media page, influencer platforms, or your own website. For brand deals, all three work!

Social media: where most deals start

Right now, social media apps are the best at helping people discover you! And they show the numbers brands love, like how many people react to your posts. Grown-ups call that the engagement rate.

Want sponsorships, not just UGC? Then you usually need a social media page where you really take care of your fans.

Influencer platforms

Influencer platforms are special websites that connect creators with brands. Like Aspire, TRIBE or Collabstr. Here, your page talks to brands, not to the public!

You can still email brands, but these platforms make it easier.

Perfect for UGC

For UGC, an influencer platform can even be your main home! Brands there look for great collections of work, not lots of followers. A good collection can win deals without a big audience.

How they work

You make a page with your topic, your best content, and a link to your social page if you have one. Brands post jobs or search for creators. You apply, or they invite you! Lots of platforms also handle agreements and payments.

Websites and blogs

Brands don’t only find creators on social media. Popular blogs, websites about one topic, and expert pages can get sponsorships too. Especially when they get lots of visitors from search, and really know their topic.

And as AI search tools read more good websites, this might become even more important! Our generative engine optimization article explains why. But for now, social media is still where most sponsorships start.

No checkout needed!

Whichever home you pick, you don’t need to take payments. No social shop, no online shop! Your fans don’t pay you.

The brand pays you directly, usually with a bill after you deliver, or through the platform. Your job is to make the agreed content, and in sponsorships, show it to your fans.

Mix them!

Lots of creators use two: a social page grows fans, and a platform shows them to brands. A website can come later.

Only doing UGC? A collection on an influencer platform might be enough at first!

A story

A creator makes short plant-care videos without showing her face. She makes a collection on two influencer platforms with her ten best videos. A few weeks later, a plant food brand orders three UGC videos!

She keeps posting on her social page too. A year later, with lots of fans, she gets her first sponsorship through the same platform.

Three oopsies

  1. Joining tons of platforms with empty pages. One full page beats five half-done ones!
  2. Using only one social app. It can change its rules anytime.
  3. Forgetting your public page. Brands still look at it before choosing you!
