Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about online business models compared. But not by money! By what each one actually GIVES the customer.
Remember the four kinds from last time? Digital product, digital service, physical product and physical service. Now let’s see which kind each of the ten ways to earn gives.
Surprise! Most of them give computer things. That’s one reason so many people can start online.
Ways that give a digital service
- Affiliate marketing. You bring a sale to somebody else’s business. The brand pays you a thank-you reward for it.
- Freelancing. You do a job from far away, like writing, design, translating or giving advice. Your time and skills go straight to your client.
- Sponsorships & UGC. Two jobs in one! Making content for a brand, and showing it to the people who follow you. Your followers watch it, but the brand pays you. So your job is really for the brand.
- Agentic AI. One of the newest ways! You build a robot helper once, and it keeps doing jobs for the people who pay to use it.
- Content as a business model. The most invisible one of all! You give attention. The app or the ad company pays to reach the people who watch you.
A way that gives a digital product
Digital product sales is the clearest one. You sell a file, like a template, an e-book or computer art. Make it once, and people can buy it anytime!
Half and half ways
- Print-on-demand. You give a computer thing, your design, to a helper company. But the customer gets a real thing!
- Dropshipping. You do the computer job of choosing, showing and selling the product. And you make sure the helper company sends a real thing to the customer.
Ways with real things
- Own online shop. You make or buy real things, and you take care of shipping them.
- Sharing economy. You share real stuff, like a room, a car or something else you own. Handing it over or sending it is part of your job too.
How to use this
First, pick the kind you like most. Then look at the ways that give it. Love making files? Try digital products or print-on-demand. Love working with people? Freelancing or sponsorships might fit.
You can also mix! Someone who draws could sell digital prints, do print-on-demand, AND take drawing jobs. One skill, three ways to earn!
Starting costs
Computer ways are usually the cheapest. But almost all ten can start with very little money. No monthly fees before anybody knows you! Start free, learn to bring visitors yourself, and spend more later.
And none of the ten ways need your face. Even sponsorships and content can show just the product, or use only your voice.
