Hi! I’m Lynnie! Where should you grow your fans, if you want to earn from them? Today I’m comparing website or social media!

Of the three kinds of homes, two work here: a social media page, or a website or blog. They lead down two pretty different roads!

Social media: the road to app programs

A social media page is your door to app money programs. Like the YouTube Partner Program, TikTok Creator Rewards and Meta’s program. Each one shares ad money with creators.

Social media is great for being discovered! Apps can show your content to tons of new people, fast. Our platform monetization programs article explains them.

Website: the road to ad companies

A website or blog opens the other road, through ad companies. Like Google AdSense, Ezoic, Mediavine and Raptive. Here, money depends on how many visitors come, and how good they are.

A website is YOURS! You decide how it looks and what’s on it. And search engines and Pinterest can bring visitors for years. Our blog ad networks article explains them.

Why lots of creators use both

Lots of big creators use both! Social media to grow and keep fans. And their own website, with a fancy ad company that pays more.

Like a recipe creator who posts short videos on social media, with a link to the full recipe on her blog. The videos help people find her, and the blog earns from fancy ads!

Why not a big mall?

People go to big online malls to BUY something. There’s no way to earn from people just looking around there. So malls don’t work for this way to earn!

How to choose

  • Love videos and want to be found fast? Start with social media.
  • Love writing and want visitors for years? Start with a website.
  • Love both? Start with one, and add the other once the first works well.

Think about being free too! Apps decide who sees you. A website plus an email list means you can always reach your fans. Our audience retention methods article explains how.

Which grows faster?

Social media can grow super fast when a video takes off. But it can drop fast too! A blog usually grows slowly through search and Pinterest, but steadily. Lots of creators like having both speeds.

Staying hidden

Both work without showing your face! Blogs are naturally faceless. And lots of channels use just voices, filming only hands, or animations.

Three oopsies

  1. Five platforms at once. Too spread out!
  2. Only one social app. It can change its rules overnight!
  3. A blog with no plan for visitors, like search or Pinterest.

A story

A creator loves explaining plant care. She starts with short videos on social media, which grow fast. A year later, she starts a blog with detailed guides for each plant, linked from her videos.

Her videos earn through an app program. Her blog earns through an ad company. They help each other!

What’s next?

The next article shows the setup you need. Two things, always! The whole module is in the book on our products page. Want a grown-up to help you choose? Go to our services page.

Yes! Or add the other one.

Which fits writers?

A website or blog!

Can a faceless channel earn?

Yes, if it’s original and follows the rules.

Social media, or a website.

What does social media open?

App programs like YouTube, TikTok and Meta.

Will there be step-by-step lessons for each of the ten ways?

Maybe! If lots of people want them. Join the waitlist and you’ll know first.
