Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you how to reach a global audience online. Global means the whole world!

Now, apps translate some things automatically! This is the last part of Lesson T5.

Why now?

Big apps now translate free posts into people’s own languages, all by themselves! So content in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi already shows up naturally in other countries. Sometimes with voice translations, and even with lips that move to match. Wow!

Why this helps: These are free posts people find on their own, not paid ads aimed at a country. So people might not expect your pages to be made just for their country yet.

Being found vs aiming

There’s a big difference between being FOUND in another country and AIMING at it.

Aiming on purpose, like paid ads for one country, means you have to follow that country’s customer laws in every way. Free visitors who find you on their own don’t bring the same duties in the same way.

Want to aim ads at a country? Go through the selling internationally checklist first!

Still be fair to everybody! Make shipping, prices and refunds clear for every customer, wherever they live!

Step by step

  1. Pick one main language. Don’t mix languages on one profile! English opens the biggest world. But your own language is great too, if you want to help a special group.
  2. Make clear, high-quality content. Translation works best with clear, simple sentences. Slang doesn’t translate well!
  3. Make buying from abroad easy. Clear prices, common ways to pay, and clear shipping info. Digital products are super easy to sell everywhere, because there’s nothing to ship!
  4. Watch where visitors come from. Your numbers show which countries send visitors. When one country stands out, maybe translate a few pages, or add payment options people use there.

An example

A Swiss seller of digital knitting patterns makes content in English. Her pins and short videos are seen in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. With auto-translated videos, people in Brazil and Mexico find her too!

Her patterns are digital, so there’s no shipping! When lots of visitors come from Brazil, she translates her most popular pattern into Portuguese.

Which ways travel best?

Digital ways travel best, because there’s nothing to ship! Digital products, affiliate marketing, freelancing and content can reach almost anywhere. Print-on-demand works well too, because lots of printers are in different countries.

Shops with real things need careful shipping plans. The sharing economy is usually local.

Oopsies

  1. Running paid ads in lots of countries without checking their rules.
  2. Mixing languages on one profile. That confuses people AND apps!
  3. Forgetting clear shipping and refund info for customers abroad.

In short

Auto-translation helps good free content travel further than ever. Being found and aiming on purpose come with different duties. Pick one language, make clear content, make buying easy, and watch where your visitors come from!

And people everywhere connect with useful, pretty or funny content. No face needed!

What’s next?
