Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m explaining brand deal setup. Remember the five setup jobs in our setup checklist? For brand deals, only ONE is always needed: an agreement with the brand.

The money only goes between you and the brand. No shoppers, no checkout, no shipping!

Your offer: your media kit

In sponsorships, your offer is kind of… you! Your fans and your content skills, packed so a brand can understand them fast.

Grown-ups put that in a media kit. It’s a short page or slideshow about you as a creator.

What goes in it

  • Two sentences about your topic and your style.
  • Your fans: how many, which countries, ages and interests.
  • How much your fans react, and how many people usually see a post.
  • Three to five of your best pieces of content, with links.
  • What you offer, like posts, videos or UGC packages.
  • How brands can reach you.

For UGC, brands pay for the content, not your fans. So your offer is your collection of work. Grown-ups call it a portfolio.

Either way, your offer must show why you’re worth the price. A good media kit gets you taken seriously!

Why it’s not ALWAYS needed

Sometimes brands write to creators without the creator ever pitching! But for that, you need to be super amazing and super popular.

The must-have: the agreement

The agreement with the brand is what makes the money happen. No agreement, no payment!

Brand deals are talked through with one specific brand. The agreement covers what you make, when, how the brand may use it, if you can work with other brands, and how you get paid.

It might come from the brand, or from a platform. For small deals, you might write one yourself. But NEVER start making paid content without something in writing!

Platforms like TRIBE, Aspire, Collabstr and Upfluence can handle agreements and payments for you.

Rules pages, and saying it’s an ad

Rules pages only matter if you have your own website. Then you need a privacy page. If everything happens on social media, or one-to-one with a brand, you don’t need your own pages.

Always say it’s an ad!

One more thing, always! Paid content must be labeled for your fans. Say it out loud in the video, write it in the caption, or use the app’s tag, like Instagram’s paid partnership label. Your fans have a right to know!

Getting paid? No checkout!

No payment helper needed, because shoppers don’t pay you. Brands pay you with a bill, usually by bank transfer. On a creator platform, the platform pays you once your content is approved.

All you need is a bank account, and a way to write a proper bill. A simple free bill template is enough to start!

Shipping? Never!

What you deliver is always digital: a video, pictures, a post or a story. In sponsorships, also showing it to your fans.

Sometimes a brand sends YOU a product to show. That’s a package coming in, not one you send!
