Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you how to find the freelance services you can offer.
Lots of beginners like the idea of freelancing, but don’t know WHAT they could offer. Good news: freelancing websites can help you find out!
What you offer
In freelancing, you offer a digital service. Lynnaider explains it as “special work you make for what your client needs.” Every project is different, because every client needs something different!
That’s the big difference from digital products. A digital product is made once and sold lots of times. A freelance service is made new for each client.
Finding your service
Freelancing websites also help you discover what you CAN sell!
Step 1: List your skills
Write down everything you’re good at or like doing. From your job, school, hobbies, and everyday life. Don’t judge the list yet!
Step 2: Explore the categories
Next, look through the categories on a freelancing website, and then the smaller ones inside. You might be surprised that your skills fit! Someone who loves organizing might find services like online assistant work, or setting up spreadsheets.
Step 3: Make it specific
Found a category that fits? Now make your offer smaller and clearer. “Logo design” is big. “Simple logos for little cafes” is specific, easier to understand, and easier to remember!
Real-world services count too!
Services you do in person can also be seen as freelancing. Doctors, lawyers, beauticians, wellness helpers, hotel and restaurant workers… They all built their businesses around their skills!
If you give your time to clients without a boss, you’re freelancing! Online tools can handle the bookings. But this module focuses on freelancing online.
Lots of other freelancers?
Lots of freelancers might offer the same thing as you! So besides a great profile, bring visitors to it. Share your work on social media, ask happy clients for reviews and recommendations, or write helpful content that links to your profile. Traffic methods for beginners explains how!
Yes, there are millions of freelancers. But there are ALSO millions of people looking for help! Don’t let the competition stop you.
An example
Imagine a retired lady who used to do people’s accounts, and loves explaining numbers to friends. She looks at the money category on a freelancing website. In the smaller categories, she finds “bookkeeping setup for small businesses” and “budget spreadsheets for families.”
She could do both! She starts with one clear service: a family budget spreadsheet, set up in a one-hour video call, for a fixed price. Her first clients are young couples planning their first home!
Setting your first prices
Prices are one of the hardest parts! Start by looking at what other freelancers with similar offers charge on your website. Write down the cheapest and the most expensive.
Small and private
Joining a free website costs nothing! You’d be surprised how little you need. No monthly payments before you have clients. And your service and your work examples can be the face of your business!
