Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about using social media as your business profile.
Social media is the most famous way to run a business online. It can bring LOTS of people. But it also brings risks and pressure that people don’t talk about much. Let’s look at both!
One home is enough
Remember? Marketplace, website or social store. One home is enough to start, and “setting up” just means opening it. Posting comes later, in Lesson T5.
Why social media is so popular
Social media lets you reach a big, busy crowd. If the apps decide to show your posts to lots of people (grown-ups call it “going viral”), you can show your work to tons of people, easily!
And you can sell with a link in your bio. That can even replace a website!
What’s a social store?
A social store is a little shop that sits at the top of your social media profile. Tools like Linktr.ee or Stan.store make them. For most ways to earn, they can do the whole paying part!
The tricky parts
You don’t own the app. If the app changes its rules, or changes who sees your posts, you might reach way fewer people. Imagine an app getting banned! That has scared lots of creators a few times already. A business that depends on one app can lose most of its people overnight.
Posting doesn’t mean going viral. This is super important! Having a profile and posting doesn’t mean lots of people will see it. Lesson T5 explains why.
The pressure to keep posting. On social media, you might feel like you have to post ALL the time. That keeps you showing up in people’s feeds, but it uses tons of energy.
Being a content creator is a busy, every-day job, with lots of editing too. If it ever feels too much, make sure you have someone to talk to. And remember, there are other ways to work! Being a creator isn’t for everybody. That’s totally okay.
Which ways really need social media?
Three of the ten ways to earn almost need social media as their home: affiliate marketing, sponsorships and audience monetization. They usually need free visitors from your posts. And for sponsorships and money programs, brands or apps might want you to have a certain number of followers first!
Cheap to start
Opening a social profile is free. Most social store tools have free plans too. You need very little money to start. Paid ads and fancy tools can wait until you know what your people like.
Start with one app and one kind of post you can make regularly.
No face needed
Lots of successful accounts never show a face! They show products, tutorials, drawings, voice recordings or text posts.
What’s next?
The next article is about two more setup things: a business email and helping customers. The whole lesson is in the book on our products page. Want a grown-up to help you decide? Go to our services page.
