Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about the types of content for business. “Content” is a word grown-ups use ALL the time. But lots of them mix it up!

Many beginners think they HAVE to become content creators. Nope!

Content creators vs online business owners

Content creators are NOT the same as online business owners. They’re one kind of online business owner: the ones who mostly bring visitors by making content, usually on social media.

You don’t have to be a content creator! SEO, Pinterest, marketplace optimization, PR, affiliates and all kinds of ads can bring visitors without hoping to go viral. Still, making content is one of the easiest ways for beginners to start.

The four types of content

Content is how ideas get captured on the computer. It comes as pictures, videos, sound, words, or a mix!

Pictures. Product photos, mockups, drawings, infographics and pins. They fit Pinterest, marketplaces, Instagram and ads. Often the first thing a shopper looks at!

Videos. Short ones, like reels and TikToks. And long ones, like YouTube tutorials. Great for social media, how-to lessons and showing products.

Sound. Podcasts, voice recordings and audio guides. Great for people who like to talk but don’t want to be seen! And for listeners who are driving or working.

Words. Blog posts, newsletters, product descriptions, captions and headlines. Short words, like captions, and long words, like blog posts. Great for SEO, GEO, email and every product page.

Picking your type

Remember? Pick your way to bring visitors FIRST, then the content that fits it.

  • SEO? Mostly words.
  • Pinterest? Pictures with a few words.
  • Social media? Often short videos.

And think about what YOU like! Love writing? Start with words. Love taking photos? Pictures! Love talking? Try sound. You’ll keep going much more easily with something you enjoy.

Every business needs content

Every one of the ten ways to earn needs some content. A shop needs product photos and descriptions. A freelancer needs examples of their work. An affiliate marketer needs articles or videos. Even an Agentic AI business needs a clear page explaining its robot helper!

Oopsies

  1. Trying every type and app at once.
  2. Making content without a plan to bring visitors, so nobody ever sees it.
  3. Thinking only videos work. Words and pictures are often easier to keep up for one person!

Quality beats quantity

One clear, helpful piece usually does better than five rushed ones. Take time to make each piece useful or pretty. And check that it fits your way to bring visitors before you post!

In short

Pick the type that fits your way to bring visitors and your strengths! Most content can be made with a phone and free tools. And all four types work without your face!
