Shine in the Mall! Marketplace Listing Optimization
LYNNIE VERSION
Would you like to read this article in more grown-up words, still easy to understand? Jump here.
Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m telling you about marketplace listing optimization. It’s way number three on Lynnaider’s list!
If you sell on a big marketplace like Etsy, Amazon or Fiverr, its search box can become your BIGGEST source of buyers. And helping your listings show up higher is free!
Way 3: marketplace optimization (free!)
Marketplaces are search engines too! This way means helping your listing show up higher in their search, so buyers find you without ads. And here’s why it’s so great. People on marketplaces are already looking to BUY. Someone searching Etsy for “personalized dog collar” is way closer to buying than someone scrolling social media for fun!
What helps you show up higher
Lots of the same things as search engines:
- the right words in your title, description and tags
- nice pictures
- how many sales you’ve had
- how many people click your listing after seeing it
- customer reviews
Reviews are the superstar! On marketplaces, reviews are the strongest free signal of all. So kindly ask for a review after every sale, following the platform’s rules.
Your whole shop matters too. A clear shop name, banner and matching photos build trust.
What content you need
Your content is your listing: title, description, tags and pictures. Use EVERY box the platform gives you. Empty boxes are missed chances!
Use the buyer’s words. Not your own words for it! You might call it a “linen storage pouch.” But buyers search for “fabric bag for bathroom.” Use their words!
Weak title vs strong title:
- Weak: “Pouch No. 3, Blue.” That tells buyers and the search box almost nothing!
- Strong: “Blue Linen Storage Pouch for Bathroom, Washable Fabric Organizer Bag.” It says what it is, what it’s made of, what it’s for, and has lots of search words. And it’s still easy to read!
Pictures that sell. Your main picture decides if people click. Use a clean, bright photo, plus pictures of the size, details and the product being used.
Beginner’s tip
Most marketplaces have a numbers page built in. It shows which search words bring people to your listing. Check it often, and change things based on what really works. Not on what you guess!
Oopsies
- Copying a competitor’s title word for word. You look exactly the same, and it can break the rules!
- Lots of listings, fast, with weak photos and short descriptions. A few great listings usually do better.
- Ignoring reviews and messages. Quick, friendly answers and lots of good reviews help you show up higher.
Which ways to earn use it?
Lots of the ten ways to earn! Shops on Etsy or Amazon, freelancers on Fiverr, print-on-demand on Redbubble, and digital products on Etsy.
Free and private
This way is free! It costs only your time. And buyers judge your products, photos and reviews. Not your face!
