Apps That Pay! Platform Monetization Programs
LYNNIE VERSION

Hi! I’m Lynnie! Today I’m explaining platform monetization. That means apps paying creators for their content! YouTube, TikTok and Meta (that’s Facebook and Instagram) are the biggest apps in the Western world that do it.
How it works
Each app has a money program. Advertisers pay the app to show their ads. Then the app shares some of that ad money with the creators whose content keeps people watching!
YouTube: the Partner Program
The YouTube Partner Program is the oldest and most famous one for videos. In 2026, you need at least 1,000 subscribers. PLUS either 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. Wow, that’s a lot of views!
Once you’re in, you get a share of the ads shown before, during or after your videos. How much depends on your topic, where your viewers live, and how much they watch.
TikTok: the Creator Rewards Program
TikTok pays creators based on how their videos do, through its Creator Rewards Program. It used to be called the Creator Fund. Money depends on views, reactions, being original, and how long people watch.
Usually you need about 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the past 30 days.
Meta: Facebook and Instagram
Meta put its creator money tools together into one program. Creators can earn from ads in Facebook videos, Reels bonuses in some places, and other payouts based on how content does.
The rules are different in different countries, and change often.
These rules change a lot! Always check each app’s official help pages.
Only real fans!
All programs need fans who found you for real. Buying views or followers is forbidden, and can get you banned! Our audience monetization article explains why.
Which app for you?
Longer how-tos fit YouTube, where search keeps videos alive for years. Short, trendy videos fit TikTok and Reels.
Be original!
All programs reward your OWN content. Reposting other people’s videos, or changing them just a tiny bit, usually doesn’t count. Make your own stuff, even if it’s simple, with your own voice and ideas!
Content rules
Every program has rules about topics like violence, fake claims, or music that belongs to someone else. Breaking them can stop a video from earning, even if your channel qualifies! Using allowed music and your own videos keeps you safe.
Not the only money
Brand deals, affiliate links and your own products are separate ways to earn. Lots of creators mix them!
Three oopsies
- Planning with old rules. Check the official rules often!
- Reusing other people’s content. It often fails the originality check.
- Using only one app. If it changes the rules, your money can drop overnight.
A story
A creator explains everyday science in short videos. She posts on YouTube Shorts and TikTok at the same time. After a year, a few super popular videos push her past TikTok’s numbers, and she joins the Creator Rewards Program!
On YouTube, she adds longer videos to collect watch hours. Later, she joins the Partner Program too. Science is cool!
